    Going back to my roots

Many years ago (well, 26 to be exact) I was born in Perth. Yes, I am a sand groper. The fam moved to 'Berra when I was about 3 or 4 and I've never been back.

    Until now.

    Well, until tomorrow really.

I'm off for an exciting fun filled week with Alby, Sherdie and Lan.

Sherdie has already posted about the grand plan here.

Why the Easter Bunny brought me Berocca

      Ooh! 100th post! How exciting.

Saturday night was host to my cousin Heldi's 30th birthday all the way up in Sydney. Most of the family had made the trek up, and husband and I brought our best buddies Glen and Lan along.

After getting settled with four beers at the hotel bar we jumped in a taxi (why are they always such bad/scary drivers?) and really began partying.

Lots of food, lots of beers, lots of lovely people to catch up with, lots and lots of laughs, and at some point in the night I somehow became quite inebriated. I'm pretty sure I also got very loud. An probably inappropriate. Thankfully, however, everyone else was in much the same state.

Speeches were lovely, and yet again it made us all terribly conscious of the fact that Peeter, Heldi's dad, was no longer here. A little bit teary, but the shot of vodka that followed with the toast to Heldi (very important Estonian tradition!) soon distracted me. My dad performed a lovely blues song he'd written for Heldi (damn her and her fabulousness - if she cheats me out of my inheritance there'll be hell to pay!) which really made the mascara run. Again, a vodka shot was there to make me gag the tears away.

Somehow I had a couple of glasses of champers, and then back to beers. Beers are much easier to dance with, much less spilly.

After Glen had a little rest with the garden gnomes and a D&M burble with husband under the stars, they found a cab and headed home. Not too long after Lan and I followed suit. Surprisingly there were quite a few people on the streets at 2am, but when we got in our taxi he asked if we'd been to midnight mass. Suddenly the many people on the street holding candles in the street made more sense, and we had to admit that no, we hadn't been to church and are in fact ungodly heathens (who have had Catholic schooling) who are drunk and going home to either a) throw up b) eat chocolate or c) fall into a drunken sleep.

      We opted for option c).

Five or six hours later we woke up, with dehydrated brains and generally feeling a bit crapola. Husband and Glen went on a coffee adventure, and hubby brought me back some Berocca. Huzzah! Couldn't face any chocolate, or even a cuppa, so I sat miserably with my Berocca and read my book.

Hubby went out for another little walk (this time trying to hunt down some hash browns) and this time brought me back a Powerade drink. Solver of all hydration problems! Yay! about half an hour later I suddenly felt fantastic and was able to face the big fry up breakfast at Heldi's.

I was expecting Heldi to have stayed awake all night, but she had weakened and gone to bed as the last person standing at 7.30am. Helds, you really are getting old. Not so much the party animal any more. heh heh!

We had a really nice run on the road back to Berra - only 2hours 45mins. We stopped for more Powerade, and that was it!

I was sooo super sleepy by Sunday evening, and was not looking forward to the trip back to Melbourne, which was long and tiring with sooky dogs.

I wam very much looking forward to the weekend.

        I Wanna Be (2000km)

        When I wake up
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the girl that spends Thursday driving up to 'Berra.

        And when I get there
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the girl who goes to her brother's girlfriend's 21st.

When I come home (when I come home!)
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the girl whose dogs are over excitable.

And when I go to bed
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be sleeping in one that is considerably smaller than my own.

        And I would drive 2000km
And I would drive 2000 more
Just to be the girl who drive 2000km
To see family and friends at Easter.

        On the Friday
Well I know I'm gonna drink
I'm gonna drink way to much tea at Lan's.

        And when I drink tea
Well I know I'm gonna wee
I'm gonna wee almost every 15mins.

Then when I have a bath
Well I know I'm gonna read
I'm gonna read my book until a murder bloody well eventually happens.

        And in the afternoon
Well I know I'm gonna see
I'm gonna see Kim, Mikey and baby Fitzie...
I'm gonna see Kim, Mikey and baby Fitzie...

        And I would drive 2000km
And I would drive 2000 more
Just to be the girl who drive 2000km
To see family and friends at Easter.

La di da da (la di da da)
La di da da (la di da da)
        Un-diddle-un-diddle-un-diddle-la-da-da
La di da da (la di da da)
La di da da (la di da da)
        Un-diddle-un-diddle-un-diddle-la-da-da

        On Friday evening
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the girl who makes her mother-in-law drink lots of champagne.

        Then on Saturday
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be drinking lots more tea at Natnou's.

And then at lunch time (then at lunch time!)
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be back in that car driving to Sydney.

        And when we get there
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be drinking at the bar at the hotel.

        And at 8pm
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the girl who goes to Heldi's party! yay!

        And I would drive 2000km
And I would drive 2000 more
Just to be the girl who drive 2000km
To see family and friends at Easter.

        La di da etc...

I don't know how the Proclaimers maintained this song. Yeesh. I'm getting bored...

Suffice to say that we drove around 2000km over the weekend going up to Canberra, then to Sydeny, back to Canberra and then home to Melbs.

"I Wanna Be" the girl who doesn't have to do that again soon.

          Mad Max Meet Miff

One of the things I like about working where I do is that a lot of random stuff happens to me.

Someone just came upstairs and told us that three of the cars from Mad Max are down at the Pumping Station if we were interested. I've not seen any of the movies (much to my detriment I'm sure) but I know how much husband and Milsy lurve it so I went down to take some piccies. And voila:

Have got many more piccies and closeups for anyone vaguely interested.

At some point I mean to give an update of my Easter weekend, but it is going to take a lot of writing, so shouldn't do it at work...
